A human due diligence for Private Equity funds
An independent diagnostic of the leadership team of an SME or mid-market company — to secure a PE investment (pre-deal or portfolio) and avoid costly mistakes.

The IRR of your investments is largely correlated with the quality of leadership teams. In a Leadership Team Scan (LT Scan), I combine my strategy consulting rigor with a sharp reading of human dynamics, to surface what may go unnoticed yet directly impacts: the feasibility of the business plan, the team's ability to execute over time, and the risk of conflict or breakdown between partners, or with the fund.

Beyond my analytical background, I capture and interpret weak signals that standardized tools (psychometric assessments, 360s…) fail to detect. This reading of people, combined with diagnostic rigor, is what makes the difference.

Secure the quality of the leadership team
  • Assess whether the right people are in the right roles — and whether the CEO has what it takes to lead through growth and turbulence.
  • Ensure team alignment (values, vision, time horizon…).
  • Spot areas of open or latent conflict — a major cause of company failure.
Understand key team dynamics affecting execution
  • Uncover the root causes of team friction — in communication, decision-making, collaboration.
  • Clarify unspoken tensions or blind spots that could derail the trajectory.
Flag issues when necessary
  • Raise red flags requiring prompt action (departure or burnout risk, problematic behavior, leadership gaps, risk of friction with the fund, etc.).
Uncover (human) value creation levers
  • Identify underutilized strengths within the team.
  • Suggest HR adjustments (scope change, role shift, team reinforcement…).
  • Pinpoint individual and collective development opportunities (e.g. coaching, trainings).

Scoping discussion with the investor
Deal context, key stakes, hypotheses, objectives, areas of concern, confidentiality framework, deployment.

Review of key documents
Background on the founders, the company, and its context (strategy, operations, environment).

Meeting with the leadership team (in person)
Observation of interactions during a working meeting; then presentation of the approach and confidentiality framework.

Individual interviews with the team (~2h00 each, in person or video)
Topics may include: motivations, operating style, posture, management style, soft skills, relationship quality, strategic alignment.

Analysis, synthesis and recommendations
Key findings (recurring patterns, risks, success factors); options and key decision points; recommendations for individual and/or collective support; HR advice (roles, adjustments, ways of working).

Written report and in-depth oral debrief. Option: Debrief with the leadership team (individual or collective, oral and/or written).
